Existiert ein Zusammenhang zwischen sozialer Kohäsion und Demokratieentwicklung? Welchen Beitrag kann/soll die Politische (Erwachsenen-)Bildung zur sozialen Kohäsion leisten? Der vorliegende Beitrag beleuchtet ausgewählte Ansätze der Politischen (Erwachsenen-)Bildung im Kontext aktueller Krisendiskurse. Dreh- und Angelpunkt des Beitrags ist das Spannungsfeld zwischen gesellschaftlicher Pluralisierung/zunehmender globaler Verflechtung und Renationalisierungstendenzen sowie erstarkenden antidemokratischen und exkludierenden Politiken. Aufgezeigt werden die Anliegen und Bestimmungsmerkmale einer „Active Citizenship Education“ und darüber hinaus auch kurz die einer „(Critical) Global Citizenship Education“. Damit im Sinne einer „subjektivierenden“ Politischen Bildung öffentliche Räume entstehen können, in denen öffentliche Angelegenheiten verhandelt werden und in denen eine einschlägige Selbstwirksamkeit erfahrbar wird, brauchen Menschen, so die Autorin, zunächst Vertrauen in eine Veränderbarkeit der Verhältnisse und müssen in der Lage sein, Visionen davon zu entwickeln, in welcher Welt sie leben wollen. Aufgabe der Erwachsenenbildung ist es, auch weiterhin verstärkt geeignete Angebote zu gestalten, um diese Bildungsprozesse zu initiieren und zu begleiten. (Red.)

English Abstract

If the world is a dangerous place. Political education, development of democracy and social cohesion

Is there a connection between social cohesion and the development of democracy? How can/should (adult) political education contribute to social cohesion? This article examines several approaches to (adult) political education in the context of current crisis discourses. The crux and angle of the article is the tension between social pluralization/increasing global interconnection and renationalization tendencies as well as antidemocratic and exclusive policies that are becoming more prevalent. It presents the concerns and characteristics of active citizenship education and also briefly (critical) global citizenship education. In order for public space to develop in the sense of a subjectifying political education (subjektivendere Politische Bildung in German) in which public affairs are negotiated and in which a related self-efficacy can be experienced, people require trust in the ability for relationships to change and must be in a position to develop visions of the world in which they would like to live. The task of adult education is to continue to offer more suitable educational opportunities that initiate and accompany these educational processes. (Ed.)
