(Red.)

English Abstract

Networks and Networking in Adult and Continuing Education. Definition of terms, perspectives and requirements

The field of adult education is structured as a network per se, even if it is hardly perceived as such, rarely appreciated and at times even classified as a deficit due to its low level of organization. In adult education, networking also mean recognizing existing networks as a value and quality criterion for continuing education institutions. The setup and the development of networks require a common ground of shared interests, a reason for activating the network, a variety of different and autonomous participants and active cultivation of relationships. Along with a definition and demarcation of the term network, the author situates the idea of the network and networking in different contexts, for example as an information or supply network, as networked thinking, as a pedagogical strategy and as an object of social science research (keyword: network analysis). The author considers and describes networking from three perspectives: the support perspective, the service provider perspective and the systemic perspective. He argues that it is essential to acknowledge and to intentionally strengthen the positive effects of networking in adult education by providing positive role models. (Ed.)
