English Abstract

The Austrian Conference on Adult Education (Konferenz der Erwachsenenbildung Österreichs - KEBÖ in German) is the working group of the adult education associations active throughout Austria named in the Adult Education Promotion Act. As a platform for discussion and cooperation, it is recognized by government bodies as the agency responsible for issues in adult education. What effect does political control have on the action of individual KEBÖ member associations? What educational policy standards affect each institution and how do they influence its work? To what extent should quality management also be critically examined? These and other questions about governance in adult education - specifically performance agreements, accreditation, EQF/NQF - were sent in an email to all executive boards and directors of the KEBÖ associations. Gaby Filzmoser (ARGE BHÖ), Bernhard Keiler (LFI), Angela Bergauer (RÖBW) and Gerhard Bisovsky (VÖV) provided responses. This article describes their responses - which reflect the diversity and variety of the KEBÖ associations.
