English Abstract

The question of quality in adult education and continuing education is complex and driven by many diverse perspectives. Activities for quality assurance and development are undertaken on different action levels. The present article presents an overview of the different interests of people actively involved in continuing education in the context of quality and attempts to introduce different points of view on quality development in adult education. The author diagnoses the potential for development particularly with regard to the professionalisation of the occupational field and the differentiated exploration of educational orientation and of the motivation and possible barriers to learning of the participants. It identifies the possibilities and limits of evaluating educational offers as a tool of quality management. The article is supplemented by a glossary of selected quality assurance and certification models which was written by the author.
