English Abstract

This article explains the new occupation of educational gerontologists, describing its areas of activity, widely scattered subject areas and training and finally presenting the Professional Association of Austrian Educational Gerontologists (Berufsverband der österreichischen Geragoginnen und Geragogen in German), which was founded in 2009 by graduates of the academic programme and master programme of study of educational gerontology at the Catholic University College of Teacher Education (Kirchliche Pädagogische Hochschule – KPH in German) in Vienna. Educational gerontologists are specialists in learning and education in ageing and old age and consider age as a treasure trove of experiences, expertise and maturity. The objective of educational gerontology work is to tap into and exploit the potential, individual resources and experiences of the older generation for the good of society.
