Literaturvermittlung war an den Volkshochschulen von Anfang an institutionell manifestiert. Der Autor spannt einen Bogen von der Rolle der Literatur im Wiener Volksbildungsverein bis zu den heute üblichen Schreibwerkstätten an österreichischen Volkshochschulen.

English Abstract

The teaching of literature has been a part of modern adult education right from the beginning; it manifested itself institutionally in the first adult education centre towards the end of the 19th century. The following contribution ranges from the role of literature in the Wiener Volksbildungsverein (the first Austrian adult education centre) to the peak of literary educational activity in the Viennese adult education centres in the 1920s up to the current establishment of writing workshops. In the conclusion, the author reflects on the documentation and analysis of writing workshops at the adult education centres.
